about me
I have worked with vulnerable young people and adults for over nine years and trained as a psychotherapist eight years ago. I previously worked in a sixth form college with students aged 16-19 and have a wealth of experience with adolescents and young people from dealing with cyber bullying to anxiety over exams to eating disorders. I have also worked in a substance misuse centre alongside the concerned others of addicts. I currently run The Lorem Clinic as well as being the school counsellor for Bohunt Secondary School in Horsham.
fundamental beliefs
My absolute founding principle is kindness. I believe that fundamentally everyone is OK, a very Transactional Analysis belief and all should be treated as so. I do not have to agree with someone’s behaviour but I do need to treat people with respect. No one knows what journey anyone has had to get to where they are in front of me as a therapist. I practice warmth, concern and care and believe compassion requires courage and strength. I have a non-judgmental and empathic nature. I aim to create an open and transparent atmosphere when in therapy so you feel comfortable. My main concern is what do you need in the here and now. The relationship between you and me is of the utmost importance and helps in the therapy room to create strong boundaries that ultimately hold you so you can safely explore your journey.
I believe each person I see is an individual so the therapeutic approach will be tailored to your personality and presenting need. But the most important part I feel is the bond and attachment created between the therapist and the client, between you and me. This is built with you and is the most important factor in effecting positive change. It is built on non-judgement and with a real understanding of the presenting issues and your history. I believe it to be an equal relationship where each individual brings their own expertise, you are the expert on you, and we work together on a journey to effect positive change for you. Therapy will be led by you within a safe environment so difficulties can be worked through with care and always confidential.
